Look But Don’t Touch

First date of broadcasting : 7 July 2008 (BBC Three)
Documentary in which singer Alesha Dixon, concerned about the increasing pressure on women to conform to an ideal body type, investigates the practice of airbrushing and retouching that has become a staple of magazine photos. Keen to discover whether these images simply celebrate the female form or whether they make harmful, unrealistic demands on women and society, her journey sees her sitting in on 18-year-old Ellie’s boob job, hearing fashion mag insider Liz Jones and celeb mate Cheryl Cole complain about the beauty industry and appearing on a front cover with her own body beautiful untouched.

Don’t Hit My Mum

First date of broadcasting : 22 November 2010 (BBC One)
Alesha Dixon explores the trauma and fall-out from domestic violence, from a child’s perspective. Alesha highlights the neglect of children at the centre of domestic violence and how, left unheard, those children can be emotionally scarred for life.
Alesha witnessed her mum Beverley being beaten by her live-in boyfriend when she was very young. In this film, she meets girls and boys who have witnessed domestic violence and discovers how it affected their lives.
This is a journey for Alesha as she, in parallel with her own experiences, examines what happens when relationships break down – between parents, between local authorities and between parent and child. And she looks ahead to see how those broken bonds can be healed.
